What are the three main functions of gears

Author:

Transfer power, change the speed and direction of motion. A gear refers to a mechanical component with gears on the rim, which continuously mesh to transmit motion and power. Gears have been used in transmission for a long time. At the end of the 19th century, the principle of gear cutting began to emerge, and subsequently, under people's research, the use of specialized machine tools and tools for gear cutting emerged one after another. With the development of production, the smoothness of gear operation has received attention.
The working principle of gears relies on the meshing between teeth and chain links to transmit the direction of motion and power. The advantages of gears are high transmission efficiency, high transmission ratio, high torque transmission, and long service life. But it also has drawbacks, such as high weight, high noise, small transmission distance, and high friction that requires frequent lubrication. Gears and gear products are important basic components of mechanical equipment and play a significant role in the overall power system. It can be said that the majority of the main transmission components of current mechanical equipment are gear transmission.
